I've finished quilting the string star quilt ... and decided it needed string binding. And so, last night, I started making the 10 yards of it I'll need. I didn't get very far ...
The binding made so far is on the left, the strings I have cut from scraps so far are on the right.
The "strings" for the binding are a bit wider than I used in the stars (to try to keep the thickness of all those seams to a minimum). I will continue cutting strings from my scrap bins and sewing them together with a goal of spending my Sunday evening Slow Stitching down the binding. Wish me luck!
Here's a peek at the quilt after it was washed–lint (from the exposed batting) and all.

A string binding is a great idea for this quilt! Enjoy your slow stitching today :)
Your string binding looks very cool...........I would love to find a tutorial on how to do that!
That should be very pretty! How wide do you make your binding?
String binding is perfect for this quilt!
I love scrap bindings, but do you really wash the quilt before you bind? Interesting would love to know why?
I too am curious as to why you wash the quilt before binding. Love the quilt as is and the binding will be the icing on the cake.
Beautiful, Sophie! I love that quilt. The binding is going to be perfect with it. Hope you got it ready for your stitching night.
Such a lovely quilt and string binding is perfect. Will look forward to seeing this one ...hugs,
10 yards! I had 28 yards on all my 5 quilts! I am so glad that is finished!
that quilt looks gorgeous and that binding is going to be awesome when it's done!!
Hum, I'm sure the strippy binding will look fabulous on the star quilt. (Which, BYW looks amazing!) But, why the very short pieces other than to make it extremely scrappy? The times I've done scrappy binding I used pieces anywhere from 10" to 18" long. With the amount of binding you need it will take forever to make your little bitty binding pieces long enough. Can you tell I wouldn't have the patience for that??? To each her own though! Good luck with it, it's going to look fabulous on the quilt whether they are little pieces or bigger pieces.
