More Playing with (Small) Scraps

Purple and Teal ScrapsI have been making more made fabric squares ... mostly because I don't have a lot of scraps large enough to do something useful for the Rainbow Scraps Challenge.

These two squares are approximately 7 1/2 inches square: purple to finish up the January color for the Rainbow Scraps Challenge and Teal for the new month.

I used the 4-at-once no-waste method to make flying geese from each square and made a 12-inch version of this month's block for the Block Lotto, Dutchman's Puzzle.

Purple and Teal Scraps
My Dutchman's Puzzle quilt block pattern includes my tips for making flying geese units three ways, including my favorite (used here).

I also included measurements for making the block in sizes from 4 inches (finished size) to 16 inches.

There's also a coloring sheet to trying your own color combinations.

On the Block Lotto this month we are playing with combinations with Pantone's Color of the Year, Greenery.

This choice made me happy, but then again, I've never met a green I didn't like ...

You can find my pattern on Payhip–clicking the pattern cover image will take you there.

I woke up thinking I would go to the local quilt shop for the annual super bolt sale and get some end of bolt big chunks. Then I see this and think, I could go through shoe boxes and bags to "make" fabric.. Now I don't know what to do.

I LOVE what you're doing with your scraps. I enjoy saving my scraps for future use but haven't sewn any back together.... I always thought just scrappy, but cutting them into triangles really change the look, and give me many more ideas on how to use up those scraps!! Thanks so much for the creativity and ideas!! Blessings!!! Vivian

I like the Dutchmans Puzzle quilt block that you have done in small scraps. Scrappy quilts are my favorites and this looks like controlled scrappiness. Love it.

Visiting from the Island Batiks blog hop, saw tons of comments on your first post so decided to leave one on your scraps post since I am a 'member' of Angela's RSC group too! Such fun right? Love the colours in your block.

Have you seen End of the Rainbow by Melissa Corry (happyquiltingmelissa). I have made her quilt several times and love to see the scrappy blocks come together out of pieces of fabric I can't use because of size and shape. Love not to feel I am wasting my gorgeous fabric. Scrappy geese, another great idea. Thanks.
