Finding that rhythm ...

As I was uploading this photo, I realized it was not only the first design wall photo of the year, it is the first since I moved last October.

The first 29 Basket Blocks

I have now made 29 of the small 4 1/2-inch basket blocks and finished hand-stitching the handles in place last night, while bingeing on old episodes of Twin Peaks. Twenty-some years later, it's still strange and wonderful.

I have an idea for design walls in this small space ... but they are not in place yet.  I may venture out into the snow to pick up the rest of the materials and hardware I need to make that happen ... but probably will not.

I thought that setting  a goal for those baskets would lead me back toward the sewing habit, but at work this week, I worked way too many hours to do anything except come home, eat and fall into bed. During the holiday today, my plan for Monday Making is to pull more scraps, match them up for basket and background and cut the pieces so they will be ready-to-go next to my sewing machine so I can continue to chip away at that 100-block goal.

During my slow Sunday stitching at Twin Peaks, I wondered if I could re-cultivate my Sunday night TV and handwork ... and how Downton Abbey became my Sunday night habit that provided some rhythm to my week.

Anyone else still working to re-establish the rhythms of their day/week after the holidays (or some other life change) ... or have a suggestion for must-see Sunday night TV to help me get back into that lovely habit?

I also loved Twin Peaks long ago and could watch it again I think. Recently I enjoyed sewing along with watching Foyle's War ( because the characters are such decent people and I like history) but am looking for something new.

Cute baskets--were these cut from Accuquilt die? I loved Twin Peaks but TV is too distracting for me to sew while watching; I usually just listen to music. Getting into habits takes time but seems you already had the groove and just need to drop your needle back into it.

Sunday evening with Downton was such a lovely habit . . . I didn't stitch, but sitting down together each week and knowing others elsewhere were doing the same was comforting and reassuring. Perhaps streaming re-runs of that show from the beginning on Sunday evenings would help re-create that habit. Happy to see your wonderful little baskets on the design wall.

I'm another Downton Abbey fan. I do have the full series on DVD and have already watched the lot of them over again, now you have me thinking of maybe sitting on a Sunday evening with my hand stitching and watching all over again. One episode each Sunday would be ideal - perhaps two??
I love your baskets Sophie, lots of scrappy goodness.

Love your baskets. They are making some interesting other squares to look at when set this way. Reminds me of the stamp - years ago... Maybe the 70s even. They were each a basket square like a quilt. (You are probably too young to remember that.)
We watch Alaska: The Final Frontier. It's a reality show that shows the lives of the Kilcher family on their homestead in Alaska. They are nice people. It's on cable, and I have no idea what the network is. Hope you find something you like.

Your baskets are beautiful. At first view I imagined them at 8 or 9 inches and was surprised to learn that they are just 4". Tiny and sweet!

Masterpiece began showing "Victoria" last night and I thought it was pretty good. It began at the time of Victoria's uncle's death, thereby making her queen. Though short, she stands tall in defending her right to lead against older men who would have her be a puppet queen. Maybe you would enjoy that on a Sunday evening. (I was going to say a replacement for Downton but we know nothing could ever really "replace" Downton.)

Gosh...how we loved Downton. Have you seen Poldark? Two seasons down so far, but you can find it on Amazon. Love those baskets!

These 'lil baskets have always been a favorite of mine. I miss Sunday evening stitch with Downton also. Since I watch very little TV, I have no suggestions.

I've have never watched downtown abbey. I have watched Alaska the final frontier but only haphazardly. I'm really no help there. One of my favorite things is to turn on Me TV on Saturday. They play all the classic old westerns. I love that in the background as I sew. Unfortunately I haven't had a lot of Saturday sewing time. Oh my! A text just came in. They just cancelled school because of all the ice....I'm sewing today....got to go, talk to you later!

I don't think there is much on TV that can hold my interest anymore but I do love my audio books from the Library !!!

I fell in love with your baskets. I usually do fall in love with your quilts because I love scrappy ones. As for Sunday TV I have heard that Victoria is good. I've been watching trash TV - Sister Wives.

Those are wonderful baskets! I wouldn't go out in the snow for anything at all!

Yes... I had that kind of week too!
A regular Sunday routine is wonderful... I love the chance to focus and stitch and recouperate.
I still miss Downton... maybe I should rewatch the whole series?

Pooh love love love this itty bitty basket blocks! Can you please tell me where I'd find the instructions for them? Thanks!

Like many others, I miss Downton Abbey so I am looking around for other shows too. A show that was recommended to deal with Downton Abbey withdrawal is a show called El Tiempo Entre Costuras. Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck finding it :(

Beautiful tiny baskets. I didn't do much quilting while I was still working. I traveled and traveled at the end of my career. My boss walked into my office one Monday afternoon and told me to back my bags to go to Houston. I had night grad school that night. I was told to pack for 2 weeks. I came home 3 MONTHS later. Luckily, my children were adults as self sufficient as long as I was reachable by phone. My husband had walked out on me about 5 years before and left me with our daughter to put through college. I was trying to do as much work as I could on my grad class as well as work LONG days. I also did some other out-of-town stints. Then as soon as my last contract assignment ended, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and six weeks later with fibromyalgia. Now many years later, my son and his 3 year old daughter live with me. I want to get back to quilting. I miss it. Your baskets are beautiful and inspire me to want to piece. I'd have to find the time after the little one goes to bed. She seems to want to be on my lap. She hasn't seen her mother in over 10 months. So, I feel like a mother to her at 65. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work.
