I realized when I was opening up the Singer 301 that I plan to use for this project and rearranging the furniture, that it's been a long time since I've:
- sewn on the 301
- machine quilted anything this large
I'm itching to play some more with unmarked, free motion, 'liberated" feathers ... and may pass on the Austin Guild's panel of Long Armers that are presenting tonight. Decisions, decisions.
With this work-in-progress OFF the design wall and onto the table, here's what's on the wall now: the leftover blocks and units and the quilt that inspired the 16-patches and on-point setting in my quilt.

Very cool, so many people have christmas quilts going. I need to start one I guess!

...clapping! Looks great! I plan to have a Christmas quilt one of these days too!
You are brave with the free motion machine quilting!! I need to practice more myself!!
OCCUPY.SEW.
How exciting, doing the quilting is my favorite part! Can't wait to see your feathers.
Good luck with the quilting, it sounds like you are set up perfectly for it. Lots of space for beautiful quilting on that quilt. Enjoy the process.
dang it sophie! Now I want to stop piecing, rearrange my furniture, and quilt. I have an old singer I like to use for quilting, but it's currently buried under a pile of who-knows-what. :)
I'm a sucker for vintage sewing machines and yours is gorgeous. Are you FMQ'ing with a normal foot?
I confess that I took the photo before I switched the thread and pressure foot. Sharp eye, Clare!!
This 301 was almost a gift. I found the art deco cabinet on eBay. I wanted the cabinet for another Singer I had ... and the 301 was in it, so I ended up buying machine + cabinet ... and adding another machne to my household.
Sure feels good to "occupy" doesn't it? And look at what a pretty quilt you have made!
Well done Sophie! It looks great. Are you planning to do some table mats or a small hanging with the leftovers? Then you'll really be "In the Mood". Good luck with the quilting.
I didn't know you had a 301. Welcome to the club.
I set up one of my 301s for free motion quilting in a permanent spot. I bought a darning foot for it. I'm good to go. (I gave up on my 101 and FreeCycled it.)
Your Christmas quilt looks so good. I've had one in progress for years and years.
Gorgeous quilt! You'll love snuggling up under this beauty for years to com.
