I finished hand-piecing my second Sunflower block and setting it inside the (machine) pieced background this week.
The sunflower is 14 inches across. The block is 18 inches square (finished size).
Tonight, I'll start cutting fabrics and slow stitching another Sunflower-inspired block in this series.

Isn't that just gorgeous! All those points! Amazing!
Absolutely stunning! I am slowly working on some cog wheel blocks I find these kind of blocks so interesting. Love the pieced background I don't think I have ever seen that, just stunning! May have to give this a go sometime.
I remember looking at this block when you were working on it and just marveling ...as it is so complicated but oh so stunning! :)
Love the precision of your hand piecing. Enjoy the applique part, another great block!
OH my goodness that is a complex and challenging block...congrats on doing such an amazing job!
Thanks for linking up to Slow Stitching!
Beautiful and amazing! and inspirational. Thanks for showing the way, Sophie. I'm hoping to make the next Grandgirl Wedding Quilt a New York Beauty that is paper pieced over the spikes... and I'm quite apprehensive. There is no deadline right now, but the grandkids aren't very far apart... I've gotta whip my ponies and get going ahead of time. But now that I see you can do this much harder sunflower, I know I can find some help if I need it.
Hugs
