This block design seems to go by many names: pumpkin seed, melon, orange peel. What do you call them?
I think I first learned it as orange peel and in Barbara Brackman's book, Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns, the pieced version has been called Orange Peel, Melon Patch and Flower Petals ... but it looks so much like a pumpkin seed, that's my favorite name for this shape. I am making mine by using needle-turned appliqué.
Each time I see them on a blog (or in a quilt), I want to make some ... the scrap bag challenge presented an opportunity. I am using any of the scrap in the ziplock I received that are at least 4 1/2 inches wide for the backgrounds–I was a little surprised to find that there are only a couple. I'll be making a few more later, as my Slow Sunday (night) Stitching project.

Love those! I have always called them orange peel and in a setting I think they are also called "robbing Peter to pay Paul".
This is definitely on my wish-list of quilts to do someday!
Love your seeds. Especially the black and white set against the hot fabrics... and graded towards the light piece. Very pretty. I have some shapes cut, but I want to get some ironable template plastic and iron them first.

I call it a lot of trouble to make. =) Yours look terrific, and I know every one of them will.
I love those pumpkin seeds! Carrie showed me a pumpkin seed quilt she wants me to help her make for her friend just this morning! I am going to get her to do it with fusible and a raw edge.

Love these blocks, really like your colour choices too.
I saw it as an orange peel in the book that I got to make mine from. They are addicting... Once my quilt is all done with the hand quilting I'll have to make another with the peels. I used needle turn applique with mine as well. Good luck and I'll enjoy watching you make them.
Orange peel is my name on this block. I love the block! I have a project with a medallion quilt where these blocks are.
"A Pumpkin Seed block by any other name looks just as lovely" - or something like that LOL!!! One of my favorite blocks - I love the colorway you are using :)
The black/white on the color is wonderful. I look forward to seeing your progress on this. Have a great week!
