What would you do?

This is just about how far I got with last month's project for A Lovely Year of Finishes before I stalled.

Stalled ...

My plan was to appliqué some small lighter blue leaves to the vines, but I became afraid they would tip the balance and this quilt would become all too blue.  I do love how the border came out, but all that blue made me hesitant to add more.

I could have decided to stop here and call it done (and meet the #aLYoF deadline), but the vine and red star flowers just don't seem flower-ish enough without something to support that vision. The question is what?

What would you do?  FYI, the top is now 60 inches squares and I probably don't want to make it any larger.

I'm joining the link lists for Esther's WOW and WIP Wednesday on Freshly Pieced ... and hoping someone will have the perfect solution for me.

I love blue, so love all the blue and could see some blue leaves. Wonder how some red buds on the vine would look, using red circles, like the centers with a blue leaf.

I love it the way that it is -- I think the leaves might be a bit much. Rather than looking at the vine as that perhaps look at it as a circle to represent unity. Lovely quilt

I agree with Katie. I don't think it needs anything.
You've done a great job on this!

As gorgeous as this quilt is , I think leaves would really go from wow! To fantastic! It is beautiful either way

I don't know what it would look like, but lay some yellow down for the flower centers, and lay some green leaves. In my mind it looks ok, but I know that's been wrong before.

I think it is beautiful the way it is. However I also agree with what Caroline said. My initial reaction was to use green leaves or even Teal/Aqua. I never know what to call that color. I think her idea of using yellow flower centers is a good one too.

I really like this quilt as it is! Though it's true that I think of the flowers more as stars.

This is stunning! My opinion is don't add anything. The colors are balanced and lovely.

I agree with Carolyn - audition some greens and yellows for leaves and flower centers. If you don't like the look, consider quilting leaves in stitching only when you quilt the top.

I would leave it the way it is. I really like the way that blue vine makes a circle. I think that would become lost, with any leaves or additional colors added.

I think the quilt is pretty the way it is and think adding leaves would make it look too busy. I know you wanted your little red flowers ... another thought I had was to removed the light blue vines and the flowers would become stars.

Sophie: For once I do agree with you. There needs to be something else on the vine and red would be too much. The lighter blue is not slapping my face like the darker blue would. Could you fashion just a few very light blue leaves, pin them to the top and take another shot to see if it helps or hurts before making them all and doing all that work?

I would leave it - It's gorgeous as it is. Adding leaves might be a bit busy. If you do have your heart set on leaves, you could always quilt them in...

I would try white leaves - maybe blanket stitched with red or just by themselves. It's beautiful!

This looks wonderful! I am not sure if adding anything would make it better.....

I like it the way it is, perhaps you quilt in blue and outline leaves where you are contemplating putting them.

The quilt looks really nice as it is If you want to add leaves try setting them on the top and see what it looks like before you sew it down leaves would look good as well see which way you like it best.!

I am late to comment, but I really like it as is. As Katie mentioned above, the blue vine unites things nicely. The other suggestion of pinning some leaves on, taking a picture and seeing how it looks is a good one, if you're still on the fence. Maybe one leaf opposite every point where the vine branches off into a flower would be enough? Or have you already decided what to do?

I have teal/aqua on the brain this month...what about some variation on blue for the leaves? And just a few...maybe two or three in each corner section, then you can quilt in more later if you want?
